Overvalued Housing Threatens World Economy

From a post by the Heartland Institute about housing prices.

We note your concern in the Annual Report about the potential long term economic risks arising from the rise in house prices in response to interest rates and more liberal loan products in the United States. However, much of the increase in housing prices may be the result of regulatory factors, rather than financial market factors.

How To Loose Customers

Barclays declines to renew a home insurance special.

Last year, Barclays offered a fairly compelling home insurance proposition. They beat your current deal by £50. A friend took advantage of this offer. A year later they sent the renewal documents through. Being a reasonably busy and disorganised guy, he never got round to renewing the insurance until six weeks after it had expired. He rang the call centre explaining that he wanted to renew; yes, he had been without insurance for the past six weeks, but wanted to take advantage of the premium they had quoted. But Barclays refused to honour the renewal quotation.

Housing Affordability In Australia

Politics and housing prices in Australia.

Should we be surprised inane arguments are concocted out of thin air? No, not at all. The anti-suburban forces have embarked upon an ideological crusade. They do not care a whit about what happens when their policies drive housing prices through the roof. For them, all that matters is aesthetics. The result is that the price of housing, including interest, has been increased over the last 10 years by the equivalent of as much as 10 years household income in Australian urban areas.

What Life Is Like For Kids In Australia

From a post on Australian kids, the impact of housing prices on kids.

Housing prices are comparatively high in Australia and parents struggle to pay their mortgage, this means that people are forced to work much harder than they would like and I think that overall childhood suffers! Kids end up doing lots of daycare and then after school care and parents then compensate by spending more money on extra activities. It’s a worrying trend as I think kids really need a chance just to be kids and families should have plenty of time to enjoy themselves and each other.

Seller Concessions In Florida

From a Florida realtor, an argument against seller concessions.

So…if you want to sell here…you better offer something…most lenders will let you offer up to 6% on seller concessions. My version…at the neighborhood cocktail party, you maintain your pricing but get your property sold and don’t get crushed ego wise. I had a great week, how was yours!

How Loan Officers Harvest Seller Paid Contributions

Do real estate agents end up with money from seller concessions?

Speaking only for our company, Legacy Escrow Service, Inc., there are NEVER excess funds from seller contributions. The loan officer will take it. We rarely see the Good Faith Estimates, so we have no way of knowing if the broker’s fees at closing match what was originally disclosed at the time of application. We only know that EVERY time we prepare a HUD-1 settlement statement in which there are unused seller concessions, we ALWAYS receive revised instructions from the broker changing (increasing) their fees.
